Talking with Former Teachers via Groups!
Talking with Strangers!:
I chose Facebook to use as a platform to look into different groups and pages to discuss and get ideas from former teachers all over America who are also in the group. I found a group on Facebook called "Teachers Helping Teachers", a private group with 58,600 members. One must request to join and give a reasoning to joining group before you can see what anyone posts/comments. When I joined I took a few minutes to look through some posts and what types of comments that I would expect to see. A lot were asking questions about unit plans, and papers/resources everyone could benefit by. I even answered questions that I knew I felt capable and safe to share my idea about what a teacher in the grade 3 was asking for.
Above I attached what I asked the group when I was able to join and watch for a bit. I wanted to make it known that it was for an assignment and was hoping with stating that, they would be understanding with what I was looking for in the comment section. With that being said I got about 30 responses to what I asked! I was only expecting about 10, if that, in the comments about ideas, books I should read, tips when starting my first year to keep in mind, and even do's and don'ts before going into a classroom. Like how multiple teachers over bought things they thought they would need but didn't.
Above I attached a link in the photo to the website of Elementary EDUC 101: What They Didn't Teach You In College. I really appreciated all of the links and videos people sent so I wasn't stuck myself searching for what they were talking about.
I was VERY hesitant at first to join a group with it being my personal Facebook account I would be joining with. But I realized that I was just apart of a group that was of all the same people who I am, either future, present, or past educators that are looking for ideas, and sharing ideas with others. I will 100% be staying in this group to see comments and ideas for the future and my classroom. I really like reading about those who are teaching and sharing their thoughts behind either becoming one.
