Accessibility

This American Life: Ira Glass on AAC and Dysarthria - YouTube

When watching Mike Phillips video, my biggest take away from it was that not everyone who is disabled hates their life and are unhappy. The reason I say this is because I feel as if I have seen videos and interviews or stories where those who are disabled hate their life because of their circumstances and I feel as if I have seen more stories about cases like those rather than Mikes where he enjoys life and being with people because he is glad he is alive and grateful.

When I look at accessibility in technology in the modern world that I see get used in my everyday life was hard to think about at first because I see things every day that I look past because I see it everyday like I said. It takes me a few minutes to really think about how I see it being used everyday but for instance, in technology we use speech to text, and text to speech everyday. A lot of us may take that for granted or see past the fact how this is super helpful to those that may have a hearing, or seeing disability. I see it myself getting used all the time too. I use speech to text very often because it is quicker and more efficient than texting.

I had never looked through my accessibility settings through my laptop because I got a new laptop about a few months ago that was not an apple laptop. When searching through my settings it was very hard to find a specific file regarding accessibility on my laptop. But instead what I found was within the tabs were a slot in each one that you could change in regards to access for those who need it. When looking at my phone settings, one thing I didn't mention in class was that when the iphone still had a touch home button, you could swipe your finger from left and right a few times and the screen would be dragged down so that you could access the top of the screen without moving your finger.

I picked to look at the graphic organizer to look at. This is because I think that every student at this age should get the chance to learn and have a graphic organizer that will help them succeed. Not just from when they start middle school or high school, but even as kids. When looking at the graphic organizer in this tab, I didn't even realize the amount of resources associated with a graphic organizer. I would use this in my professional practice based on the options given to provide to students.
