Cyberbullying & Ethical Use
Summarize the article.
When I first listened to “Advice For Teachers”, I listened to the audio portion of this article. This article talks about the do’s and don'ts of how a teacher should act media wise. They go into examples of how teachers have made mistakes or gotten fired for saying something. Teachers are at greater risk for being flagged and tagged out for the things they post because of students, parents, and others. A lot of these examples are talking about freedom of speech as a person and teacher and that fine line.
What did you find most interesting about the article? Did anything surprise you? What do you think about what they've written?
What I found most interesting about this article is that when the article was talking about different types of ways teachers have gotten in trouble, it was alarming to think that during all of my teaching career that if I go out, while everyone would be having a good time in any legal way, that I would always have to watch anything that was taken of me or posted by someone else.

Summarize the article.
This article talked about the difference between cyberbullying and traditional bullying. The article then talks about the statistics behind the growth in cyberbullying. “According to a 2012 study, cyberbullying has become more common than traditional bullying. About 25 to 30 percent of youth admitted to either experiencing or taking part in cyberbullying. In contrast, just 12 percent said they had experienced or taken part in traditional bullying. Of those involved with cyberbullying, 95 percent said it was meant to be a joke”-TUW. They go on to talk about the emotional and physical toll it takes on younger teens and older teens with a spike in suicide.
What did you find most interesting about the article? Did anything surprise you? What do you think about what they've written?
I think that the statistics of everything is what surprised me the most out of this entire article. Of how suicide has gone up, and how more people cyberbully because they can be annomous, etc.
Based on the reading and media in this module, what will be your personal social media policy?
My personal media policy for my classroom, let's say it was a 3rd grade classroom, would be that obviously anyone can have social media because that is a parent thing of yes or no to any of it. But I will say that if anyone has it that we don’t take pictures of anyone in class, or talk about anyone. I would have a classroom instagram or something that they could follow on their own social media and we would post there, but I would also put a special box of notes for students to drop, so that if they know of anyone who's talking negatively or bad about another student I would address it privately.
